Dandelion Wisdom
The Story
The Dandelion’s Journey
She was flying, enjoying her lightness, like a feather riding the wind, wherever it may take her.
Enjoying the journey, never wanting to land too long in one place. Care free. Little did she know that she was a seed. A seed created by the Moon Dandelion. Meant to go on roaming freely, but only until she, if lucky, hits the ground.
And our little dandelion did got lucky. She found herself one day laying on the soil,
and before she knew it, she started sinking deeper and deeper. Underneath, in the dark, she was lost, confused. She had nowhere else to go.
She started to crack. Reaching out for answers. And that’s how she found herself connecting with other seeds. She watched as they grew roots, and before she knew it, she started growing too.
Her roots were going deeper and deeper into the ground, she was transforming. She was no longer just a seed.
She was growing up, towards the light. Reaching deeper with her roots and higher with her head. It was hard, tiring, and full of difficult changes. But whatever the circumstances, no matter the difficulties, she kept on going.
Until, one day, she saw the light again. She bathed in the beauty and became part of it. Now she is the Sun Dandelion. A shiny yellow flower with the spirit of spring in her heart. Warm and vibrant. Strong and proud. She became a part of something bigger. She embraced her transformation, appreciated the connections, and understood the journey.
But her journey is not over. For the Sun Dandelion will once set, giving way to her Moon Dandelion to shine instead, and when it is time, spread her starry seeds into the wind...

The Dandelion SYMBOLISM
Healing from emotional pain and physical injury alike
Intelligence, especially in an emotional and spiritual sense
The warmth and power of the rising sun
Surviving through all challenges and difficulties
Long lasting happiness and youthful joy
Getting your wish fulfilled
The Greeks saw the plant as a source of power and strength, giving it positive symbolism for anyone trying to face a challenge.
The bright yellow Dandelion flower is a symbol of growth, hope, and healing. The greatest significance comes from its unique and instantly recognizable seed head, rather than the sunny flower. The seed heads are commonly picked and blown to make a wish, spreading the seeds at the same time. This has given the flower a strong association with hope and optimism.
But, that isn’t all it symbolizes. The deep stretching tap root allows the dandelion to colonize difficult locations and reach deep for water. So, take the dandelion as a symbol of beauty in difficult situations. Be like the dandelion flourishing in a crack in the city pavement, i.e. no matter how hostile your environment, you are beautiful. It’s this ability to survive in tough situations that also makes dandelions powerful symbols of endurance and, most of all, ultimate victory.
While many people think of dandelions as weeds that are a nuisance in the yard, they’re actually quite good for the grass as their roots spread wide, acting as an aerator for the soil, while their roots also soak up nutrients from the deeper soil and spread those nutrients throughout the yard, working as fertilizer. However, since dandelions aren’t exactly wanted in a yard, many homeowners have discovered just how difficult it is to get rid of them; dandelions are a hard flower to kill.
Pikorua Symbol
A Maori symbol of loyalty and friendship, the pikorua has several variations, from a figure-eight shape to double and triple twist forms. The symbol was probably inspired by the pikopiko fern that grows in regions of New Zealand, or the weave pattern of kete baskets.
While the single twist variation represents the infinite partnership of two individuals who always find their way back to each other, the double twist symbolizes the connection of a group of people. When it comes to the triple twist variation, it stands for the relationship between groups, peoples and cultures, symbolizing trust and friendship.
Final Design
This tattoo was done in a cabin in the mountains of Yalova, Turkey. Elisa was scheduled to play a set that night, so our time was limited. Although we completed most of the tattoo, it's not entirely finished. Since she lives in Switzerland, it might be a while before I get the chance to finalize this beautiful piece. It was a great pleasure meeting this lovely artist and bonding with her over ink and art. After we stopped, she went on to give the dance floor an unforgettable journey through her magical music. A day and night to remember for sure!
