A Moonlit Connection: Tattooing a Scene of Love and Wind for My Sister
The moon, ever-present and steadfast, watches over us all. The wind, playful and free, dances between clouds, connecting us across distances. These elements inspired the tattoo I created for Genevieve, my youngest sister. She painted the scene for me with her words, and I could see it vividly. This vision turned into countless sketches, a design both of us cherished.
Though I initially planned to ink this scene on myself, for now, I carry the full moon on my left shoulder. Instead, I had the honor of tattooing this beautiful imagery on Genevieve, a piece representing our shared moments under the same sky.
The design features a crescent moon nestled among clouds, with the wind swirling gracefully. After many iterations, we finalized the sketch that resonated most with Genevieve. At the time, my studio was still based in Istanbul, so I traveled to Lebanon with my tattoo kit. There, a dear friend, Kiwi, welcomed us into her studio. Kiwi is an amazing artist, and you can explore her work here: Kiwi Sun Tattoo & her art page.
On the day of the tattooing, my sister arrived with our cousin and two friends, creating a warm, familial atmosphere. It was a perfect setting, and before starting, I had a wonderful chat with Kiwi, catching up and soaking in the ambiance of her lovely studio.
Tattooing Genevieve felt like a significant ritual, a rite of passage for her first tattoo. I wanted everything to be perfect, and the weight of responsibility was palpable. To ground myself, I had to release the pressure and focus on being present with each stroke of the needle, allowing the process to flow naturally.
As the design began to take shape on Genevieve's skin, the nerves faded, replaced by a sense of calm and connection. The intricate dance of the wind among the clouds and the serene presence of the crescent moon came to life. The experience was deeply bonding, filled with shared smiles and quiet concentration.
The result was beautiful, a testament to our shared vision and the love between siblings. Genevieve's joy and the positive reactions from everyone present affirmed the success of the tattoo. Though I still have some ideas for future additions, the piece stands complete for now, a symbol of the ever-present moon and wind that connect us.
This tattoo is not just an image on skin; it’s a story of love, connection, and the shared experiences that bind us. It represents a moment in time when the moon watched over us, and the wind danced from a cloud to another.
